The Digital Art Academy course breakdown

The curriculum combines Procreate instruction with projects in illustration, painting, pattern design and business. The first five courses each focus on a distinct set of techniques, followed by botanical, pattern and specialized courses.

Course 1: Masterclass For Procreate

With more than 40 hours of instruction, this foundation course introduces Procreate tools, layers, brushes and gestures. It also covers efficient drawing workflows, color, light and realistic texture, leading to a finished digital artwork.

Course 2: Style Discovery Masterclass

Across more than 25 hours, explore eight art styles through subjects ranging from watercolor pancakes to children’s book characters. Advanced composition lessons help bring complete artworks together while encouraging you to combine techniques and develop your own style.

Course 3: Pet Portrait Purrfection

This course offers more than 20 hours on pet portraiture, including techniques for building soft, realistic fur textures. Lessons also address animal proportions and expressions to help make portraits more lifelike.

Course 4: Oil Landscape Painting

In more than 20 hours of training, landscapes are broken into manageable elements using digital oil painting techniques, custom brushes and layered work. Composition, light and atmospheric perspective support the development of complete landscape paintings.

Course 5: Portrait Academy

Portrait Academy provides more than 18 hours of instruction, including a drafting formula for capturing likeness. Study distinctive facial features, including eyes, noses, mouths and bone structure, when drawing people of different ages and genders.

Courses 6–9: Botanical and pattern work

Four modules cover realistic fruit, flowers and botanical illustration alongside seamless pattern techniques. Projects include exotic animals and botanical motifs, with instruction on preparing print-ready files for commercial products.

Courses 10–16: Specialized digital art skills

The remaining courses explore digital makeup, 3D painting, augmented reality viewing, neon garden landscapes and children’s book creation. The Children’s Book Masterclass also addresses publishing on Amazon.

A business course teaches 36 ways to monetize digital art. Course 14 covers approaches such as selling portraits, licensing patterns, print-on-demand and freelance illustration.

Freya Kotchakorn is a botanical artist, pattern designer and digital art educator with more than 20 years of professional experience. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Decorative Arts from Silpakorn University in Thailand.
